Pekerman later played for Colombian football club, Independiente Medellin in 1974 and at the age of 28, he ended his career after suffering from a knee injury. He started his playing career with the youth team of Argentian football club, Argentinos Juniors and later joined the main team in 1970. Jose Pekerman was born on 3 September 1949 on Villa Dominguez, Argentina. He has been coaching Colombia National Team since 2012 and has managed the team in 2 FIFA World Cup editions. He has coached the Argentina U-20 team and was the manager of the senior team in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Before switching his career to coaching, he played club football for the Argentinan club, Argentinos Juniors and Colombian club, Independiente Medellin.
